Timber Creek I
Timber Creek I - Valle Crucis NC

These two log cabins are nestled in the heart of Valle Crucis NC and just off of the Watauga River Road. They are surrounded by two running mountain streams that are easy to wade in, catch salamanders, or just look at the series of small waterfalls as you ford upstream or sit around the stone firepit. Children love playing in either one and looking for gold and other mountain rocks and adults love sitting in the gazebo and listening to the babbling brook and natures’ songs.

The first log cabin- the main lodge-sits cozily amidst 7 acres of native pines, hemlocks and rhododendron. The large living room with exposed beams, cathedral ceiling, hardwood floors, and charming collection of distressed tables, native art, Indian artifacts, and modern conveniences make this a wonderful treat summer or winter. In summer, the large glass sliding doors open unto a 300 sf covered porch that not only has a lot of space to sit and read, rock and talk, or just contemplate the mountain beauty, but is always cool (never recorded over 82 degrees), and the sound of the stream carries up and boy, is that peaceful. Have dinner on the porch with another antique dining table that seats 8 and then have your coffee enjoying the quiet and comfort of the wicker rocking chairs and cozy furniture arrangement. Listen to the owls at night, the bullfrogs and other incredible wildlife during the day. Deer abound in this nature’s sanctuary.

In winter, build a large roaring fire in the rustic stone masonry fireplace that is centered in the room. Cuddle up and watch TV or choose a book from the large collection of reading materials left for the guests. Or soak in the large hot tub while enjoying the stars. Whatever you choose, it is warm and inviting. Cathedral ceilings, ceiling fans and a warm fire make the living room area a popular place to hang out and watch TV, play a DVD from the provided library or to enjoy the wireless internet access. Works by area artists are displayed throughout the cabin.

The adjoining spacious kitchen again has charming distressed dining room furniture and cabinets that make you want to eat in every night. Why would you want to leave when this is so wonderful. Master Suite and two baths will sleep four adults and four children comfortably.

From the main level master bedroom with king bed and rustic wood furniture, you can step straight out onto the large, screened-in porch or join the rest of the gang in the living area. The decorations are charming and the beds comfortable. TV with cable and good books specific to this bedroom in case you want to be alone. The adjoining bath affords you privacy from the rest of the house as well.

Upstairs has two more bedrooms- both with queen. There is also a video arcade with over 50 games for children of all ages.

There are other little nooks and crannies to explore that are full of little surprises with items like antique desks, bookcases, and of course the tin roof looking out on the pines and hemlocks.

Now if you have a larger party you can add Little Timber Creek for a special discounted rate. Walk down the moss lined rock path to get to a hidden little one bedroom loft log cabin. This little cabin also has a rock masonry wood-burning fireplace, and comfortable double bed in the upstairs loft. Again with exposed beams, tin roof, covered porch overlooking the stream and gazebo. Rent this one for your extra friends or relatives that want to join you but still want their privacy. This house sleeps up to 2 adults and one child.

This is a charming house and only 1/4 mile to the Watauga River where you can fish, tube, wade, and explore. Nearby companies will meet you with a canoe, lawn-chair tubes, or just old-fashioned inner tubes and then pick you up and hour or two later after you have meandered down the flowing peaceful river. The historic Mast General Store, the very famous Holy Cross Church and St. John’s Church are all within two miles and the Valle Crucis Park is only 2.5 miles away which offers lots of fun for children, fishing, ponds, and running track, picnic tables, and playground.

Timber Creek Cabins have convenient paved access for all but the last 2/10 mile, which is gravel.

Please remember, 4WD or chains are always recommended when visiting the mountains in winter.
