 While enjoying
your Blue Ridge Vacation Cabin, be sure not to
miss the exciting NC whitewater rafting in the
Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, and Valle
Crucis NC areas. There are several touring
companies that offer NC whitewater rafting,
namely Edge of the World, Ski Country Sports,
Wahoo’s Adventures, and for a short drive from
the area, the Nantahala Outdoor Center.
Edge of the World in Banner Elk NC offers NC
whitewater rafting on the Watauga River for
individuals or groups. The rafting season for
Edge of the World takes place between Memorial
Day and Labor Day, Monday through Saturday. Not
only does Edge of the World offer whitewater
rafting, but they also provide kayaking and are
conveniently located within downtown Banner Elk.
Reservations are requested.
Ski Country Sports is another local company
offering NC whitewater rafting. Ski Country
Sports has two convenient locations, one in
Banner Elk and the other in Boone NC. Ski
Country Sports offers whitewater rafting on the
Nolichucky River, Watauga River, and Wilson’s
Creek, in addition to funyak paddling and even
caving excursions. All trips depart from the
Banner Elk location on Highway 184. Whitewater
rafting on the Nolichucky River is an all-day
event, leaving from Banner Elk at 7am and
includes travel, rafting, lunch, more rafting
and a swim, and travel back to Banner Elk. The
Watauga whitewater rafting expedition leaves
Monday through Saturday at 11:30am, and is a great
trip for families and children. The trip
includes lunch and mild rapids, and it returns
to the Banner Elk location around 5pm. The
Wilson’s Creek outing is NC whitewater rafting
in funyaks and involves drops of 5 to 10 feet
during this trip. This trip leaves at 9:30am and
returns before dinnertime. Group rates
are available.
 Wahoo’s Adventures is a nationally recognized
company located in the heart of Boone NC and
offers great whitewater rafting. Wahoo’s
offers Gentle Adventures, High Adventures, and
Extreme Adventures as options for whitewater
rafting. The Gentle Adventures take place on the
Watauga River and are fun for the whole family.
All adventures include deli-style buffet
lunches. The High Adventures take place on the
Nolichucky River in smaller rafts and involve
great rapids and canyons for more exciting
rides. The Extreme Adventures vary in location
and take place only during specific weekends.
Extreme Adventures are created for the more
experienced rafters and feature a refresher
safety clinic before the real ride begins.
For those interested in taking a short drive to
Asheville NC, the Nantahala Outdoor Center
offers some of the most exciting NC whitewater
rafting trips around with rapids ranging from
Class I-III on the Nantahala and Pigeon Rivers,
to class V and V+ on the Chattooga and Cheoah
Rivers. Ride lengths, departure times,
experience required, and prices vary
significantly, so contact the Nantahala Outdoor
